Tryout Information

Dress Code

NBCVC ICE tryouts are designed to evaluate the whole athlete, not just individual volleyball skills. Our evaluators consider each athlete’s current ability, athletic potential, attitude, effort, and how they contribute to a team environment.

Athletes will be evaluated on ball control, serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, defensive skills, movement, court awareness, communication, and overall volleyball knowledge. Evaluators also pay close attention to qualities that may not appear on a stat sheet—coachability, work ethic, competitiveness, positive attitude, teamwork, resilience, and effort between every play.

Players are encouraged to communicate, compete hard, listen to feedback, support other athletes, and demonstrate a willingness to learn. Mistakes are expected during tryouts. How an athlete responds to a mistake and prepares for the next play can be just as important as the play itself.

Our goal is to select athletes who will contribute positively to their team while continuing to develop throughout the season.

To maintain a safe, respectful, and appropriate environment for all NBCVC athletes, coaches, and families, players are expected to follow the club dress code whenever participating in practices, training sessions, tryouts, or other club activities.

Athletes may wear an appropriate volleyball or athletic T-shirt. Cut-off sleeves and clothing displaying sexually explicit, drug- or alcohol-related, discriminatory, or otherwise offensive wording, logos, images, or advertisements are not permitted. Tank tops are prohibited, and midriffs must remain fully covered.

Players must wear appropriate volleyball or athletic court shoes suitable for indoor play. Spandex shorts are permitted; however, they must provide appropriate coverage, with the buttocks and underwear fully covered at all times.

For athlete safety, jewelry is not permitted during volleyball activities and must be removed before entering the court.

Changing clothing in public areas, hallways, gym spaces, spectator areas, or other open areas is not permitted.

Players should arrive prepared with appropriate athletic clothing, clean indoor court shoes, a water bottle, and long hair secured away from the face.

Photos

To assist our coaches and evaluators during the post-tryout evaluation and team selection process, a Polaroid photo will be taken of each athlete. These photos provide a temporary visual reference, helping evaluators accurately identify players when reviewing assessments and discussing team placement.

Photos are used strictly for internal evaluation purposes and will not be shared, published, or used on social media. All photos will be discarded once the team selection process is complete.

Athletes are asked to arrive early for their first scheduled tryout session to allow sufficient time for their photo to be taken before evaluations begin. This will help ensure that all tryout sessions can begin on schedule and that athletes are present for the full evaluation period.
